There are many control panels available in the market and are used for different purposes. Cpanel/WHM, Plesk, DotNetPanel, H-Sphere, are few types of control panels available in the market.

Most often you see cPanel and Plesk although there are many more available. What will really set control panels apart in the near future will be their ability to be accessed via mobile technology. Some are already ahead of the game with this type of feature.

Yes cpanel and plesk are the best control panels over there. I would strongly prefer to use them.

For Linux, common paid options are cPanel and DirectAdmin. Kloxo, Webmin, and ISPConfig are free, but still very nice panels.

They are both reliable platforms. It depends on who your hosting provider is in regards to if it is reliable or not.

    Windows Hosting = ASP Programming
Linux Hosting = PHP, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, etc.
