Sure, any free feature is attractive
I would suggest webmasters to look for a minimum uptime of 99%. In fact, even 99% is actually too low - it really should be 99.5% or higher. The host should provide some sort of refund (eg prorated refund or discount) if it falls below that figure.
Well and good if it protects against any attack for free.

Yes it seems attractive. However, you must mention how much of the DDoS attack would it be able to shield the VPS from. Also, would a dedicated hardware assigned to it ? (of course not i guess). So I'm guessing the protection would be on software level, and that is not very effective against medium to large DDoS attacks.

Personally, I think it would be more attractive as a paid add-on, in order to segregate users who expect attacks from those who don't.

True DDOS protection costs providers a lot, so you cannot get that service for free.
Good combination for your site fe is vps + external mitigation services. But that also wont be so affordable, but still if you want decent ddos protection, you have to pay.
