Default What would you choose?

I wonder what would you like to chose? VPS or dedicated server as the next step after shared web hosting account?

After shared hosting, I'd choose a VPS.

it depends on why you decided to upgrade your shared account:
1 It you just grow and there was no problem with your account on shared server, then yes you can take VPS;
2 If you decided to upgrade your account, because your account was several times suspended because of shared server overload then you need to choose dedicated server only. AS shared server is powerful server, and when it get overloaded because of ONE shared account then this means that this ONE account used almost all resources of shared server. So it is bullshit of support team that upgrading to VPS will resolve the problem. In such case upgrading to VPS can cause more problems, overloading, speed, timeout etc. So in such cases you need to use only dedicated servers.
And in cases when you upgraded to VPS because your shared account overloaded the shared server, it's not necessary of yelling on support team

Once you have your account several times suspended you will look for the new web host, at least most of the people act in this way

Still the price difference is pretty big I think for most people a vps will do. I would try out a few ones it's good to know the people before you put your confidence and effort in their hands. Even with dedicated it's still nice to know the company you have to contact when things go wrong.

It is pretty usual to upgrade to a VPS than a dedicated server as the price difference is much higher. VPS provides a dedicated like environment, an individual gets root access with both but the is a difference in the server resources.

I think that
take a server and setup two instances of vmware
one of it for online version of your site
the other for online backup
in the future whenever your sites goes up
you can easly take your vps server to a huge server again as vps but having so much performance

But in this case you will overpay
