I remember talking to OnApp personnel. They told me I require half a dozen of servers, switches, routers and a lot of bandwidth for cloud hosting setup. Can anyone explain exactly what do I require to start cloud hosting and how much minimal cost would it require ?

If the prior, there are companies that will let you even white label their cloud hosting infrastructure. If the later, it will depend on your resource requirements. For instance some companies you can start as low as $20/mo on cloud infrastructure.
Also, if your simply looking to start offering cloud hosting, there are different platforms out there, and much of the hardware requirements depend on the platform.
The biggest cost component in a proper cloud deployment is the centralized storage. You can easily spend $250,000 for a medium sized enterprise grade storage solution.
Even if you attempt to cut corners you're still going to be into for $40-$50,000.
Well that seems quite an investment really. So why do companies actually require so many resources to setup a cloud network ? Is scalability so expensive ?
